Bamburgh Castle Cricket Club sponsors Women's Softball Festival

Northumberland County Cricket booked the ground at Bamburgh for a Women's Softball Tournament on 21st July 2024. Bamburgh Cricket Club sponsored the Softball festival as our own excellent club cake maker Susan Parmley kindly agreed to provide the cricket tea for the participants on the day. Women's Soft Ball Cricket is a short form of cricket, using a soft cricket ball and non-wooden bats. The game is designed to give everyone a fair opportunity to bat, bowl and field, in a supportive environment; which makes it a brilliant way for women of all ages, abilities and experience levels, to get involved.

Susan Parmley does us proud!

Susan Parmley provided a superb cricket tea for the teams taking part in the Women's Softball Festival organised by Northumberland County Cricket in Bamburgh on Sunday 21st July. Well done Susan!

Another Mum and Son Duo play for Bamburgh

Another great moment for the club as Bamburgh had our second ever Mother and Son playing duo for the T20 evening match against a visiting Australian Veteran team. Both Lynsey and Alex (Ricky) Punton were in the side and opened the batting for Bamburgh. Alex was voted "Player of the Match" by the opposition for taking 2 wickets and was also on a hat trick. He didn't trouble the scores however as, in his words, his mum created too much "scoreboard pressure"!

Thank You for the Covers!

Bamburgh Castle Cricket Club recently took possession of new covers, which will protect the wicket from wet weather and help prevent the cancellation or abandonment of matches. The covers were purchased by the generosity of three sponsors: - Dr. Miriam Stoppard, who has been a keen supporter of Cricket from a young age, her father and brother both being enthusiastic players, she has always taken an affectionate interest in Bamburgh over many years. William Armstrong of Bamburgh Castle, whose father is the President of Bamburgh Cricket Club. The whole family have for several generations supported the Club and this continuing support is invaluable for the future. Tony Cawthorn lives in the Village, is an enthusiastic committee member and a great supporter of the club.

Bamburgh Spin Bowlers hit the headlines

The Northumberland Gazette featured an article celebrating the success of our spin bowlers Finn Baker Cresswell and Neil Newcombe in recent matches. After Neil's 3-18 and Finn's 3-9 on Sunday (following on from his 3-9 last week) both players are shown sitting in the dressing room under a photograph of Jacques Du Toit, the medium-fast South African right armer who played for Northumberland from 2013-17.

Getting ready for the 2024 season does involve quite a bit of work by the grounds team over the winter. Lawn mowers are maintained, the roller is tucked away and the pitch is treated and lovingly cared for by our head groundsman, John.
